Sniffapalooza Interview with Lyn Ayre 1September2008.pdf

If I am away, I'll make a note here, to let you know when I'll be back.

I take an Artisan approach to perfuming, designing and hand-crafting each one, drop by drop, deftly balancing and harmonizing the essences into a cohesive whole. I begin creation with the mysterious and romantic base notes; followed by the heart and soul of the perfume, the heart notes, and lastly, the meeters and greeters, which are called the head notes. My love and appreciation is imbued into every bottle.

All perfumes noted below are available through Coeur d'Esprit Natural Perfume Salon. Please email me with your choices and I will send them out for you. LynAyre@telus.net Thank you.

"Hi, Lyn, I just wanted to let you know that all of the samples and the perfume arrived safely on Monday--and what a divine scent emanated from the package before I even opened anything! I feel like I have hit the jackpot here; I really like everything! I'll try to give you some more detailed feedback later on. And the ambergris is amazing--very delicate. I don't think I had a very clear idea of what it was going to smell like and am looking forward to playing around with it. I was very curious about the hyraceum too, and the first whiff out of the vial seemed to fit in with what you might expect from an animal's excretion. It will be fun to see what I can do with it." RO, Spain

"Dear Lyn, I just received the (second set of samples included-Chez Noir, Paris Nightlife, a la Rouge, Autumn Aura, Wonder, and Midnight Blue) six samples I ordered. They are of fine and harmonious quality and excellently blended. I plan to order my favorites soon. I am grateful for the opportunity to have natural fragrances with sophistication and charm." First set included-Souvenirs de la Vie, Nefertiti, Whole Notes, Loverly, Afterglow, and Purple Iris) HD, Buffalo, NY

Perfumes for your aromatic pleasures...

Be sure to see what others are saying about the perfumes you like on my Kind Words page... If you would like to comment on your perfume, just email me and I will publish it to my website.

It's important to note that the Oakmoss is low-atronol, the Peru balsam and Citrus oils I use are steam distilled and safe in the quantities I use.

Please also be aware that these perfumes are made with 100% pure essential oils and absolutes. Perfumers and Aromatherapists alike agree that it is not advisable to use the same oil (or any other product) day in and day out for weeks or even years on end. And, it is never advisable to use undiluted essential oils on your skin. This is how we become sensitized to certain products. I always suggest having two or three perfumes on the go to use for different occasions and at different times throughout the year. If you decide to do that, choose ones that do not have the same ingredients as each other, for best results. Again, this is when getting samples is a real blessing. My first order of business is always 'do no harm'.

Every perfume I create is infused with the ancient wisdom of the Tibetan singing bowls and Crystals. They are also toned, and surrounded by colour energy.

Floral Citrus.jpg (47699 bytes)  Citrus/Floral:

Breath of Gaia perfume is based on the story of the Oracle at Delphi. With top notes of citrus, reminders of the scents of the sea, and the flower and herb covered hills of Greece, this perfume has a grounded base of Oud, blonde tobacco, hay, labdanum, spikenard, and low-atranol Oakmoss.

...The journey took her through a grove of citrus trees, then down a path overgrown with herbs and flowers, and finally deep into sticky rock rose thickets heavily laden with labdanum resin, which caught on her white robes. She entered the cave and saw the questers awaiting her presence. Seated upon a tripod above a deeply etched chasm, which exuded the sugary ethylene vapours, she rested, dropping into a deep meditation as the earth exhaled. The sweet Breath of Gaia swept over her inducing a trance-like state. Then she began to answer…” Chypre/Citrus/Floral 2007 read the review here...

Bridge Notes When creating a perfume formula, we can use notes that are classified as both base and heart or heart and head. These are called Bridge Notes and they smooth the way from one layer of the perfume to the next. Some are: Jasmine, Rose, Vanilla, Ylang, Clary Sage, and Lavender. The transition through this Citrus Floral is smooth and delicious. Notes of sweet Rose de mai, sexy Jasmine sambac, lovely green-coloured / green-scented Lavender absolute, creamy Vanilla, flow from one refrain to the next. A full fruity/citrus head accord of Tangerine, Palma Rosa, Bergamot, and others, leads the way. Citrus Floral 2007

Citrance My wish was to make a predominantly citrus perfume that wouldn’t just fly off one’s body. I accomplished this with the help of ladies Lavender, Chamomile, and Litsea who were heralded in by a bright hit of bergamot, lime, and ginger and supported on a base of Cedarwood and Vetiver. Great staying power. Citrus/Floral 2008

Read the Review: Citrance.pdf

Eau d'Esprit I wanted to use all parts of the Bitter Orange tree in a perfume formula. With a citrus opening of bergamot fcf (in place of bitter orange, which is not part of the bitter orange tree but also does not have the photo-toxicity of an expressed oil), orange, tangerine, and lime, it evolves to the next layer of orange blossom water absolute, Neroli, orange blossom absolute, and petitgrain, drying down to patchouli, labdanum, hyraceum, and amber accord to ground this truly wonderful citrus floral perfume. Citrus Floral 2004

EnLighten This perfume features Sassy Tuberose, in all her glory. Opening with the fresh splash of bergamot and tangerine, then a soft breeze of galbanum, tuberose stands alone supporting herself on a bed of ambergris, Ambrette, German chamomile, and sweet sandalwood. Citrus Floral 2004

Hedgerow

The light touch of Ambergris, Ambrette, Mate, and Green Tea holds this Citrus Floral together. Herbal flowers of Lavender, Geranium, and Rosemary create a soft powdery scent that softens the edges of the full citrus head notes: Petitgrain lemon, orange & bigarade, Bergamot, and Key Lime. `Reaching the centre of the Maze, you gather up the leaves and herbal flowers tossing them in the air. As they twirl around, you twirl around, a young girl again. The fountain is bubbling, the sky is blue, and you feel uplifted by the aroma of the many fruit trees in the area. Hedgerow takes you back to simpler and more carefree times.` Fougere/Citrus 2010

Inspiration from the Sea You’re in an exotic, warm location with turquoise waters and tall palm trees. You can smell the fruit and spice trees on your own private island. The sea is lapping at the shore and the whales and dolphins are within sight. They make you laugh, and as you do you breathe in the deep scent of the white flowers: Jasmine sambac, Neroli, Frangipani, and Lotus. This is a wonderful perfume for a mini-vacation in your mind. Chypre/Spicy/Salty Floral 2010

Floral Perfumes.jpg (72526 bytes)  Florals:

Charmed starts with fresh and green violet leaf, galbanum, and rosewood, this very feminine scent has a heart of tuberose, rose, and jasmine with a creamy base of vanilla, oakmoss (steam distilled), sandalwood, and amber accord. Chypre/Ambery/Floral 2007

Chez Noir If you love the smell of liquorice then this is the perfume for you. Rich, deep Anise, Tarragon, and Cardamom lead the way into a full floral heart of Rose, Jasmine, and Ylang, drying down to the warm, sensuous tones of ambergris, patchouli, fresh-mown hay, and labdanum. Not for the faint of heart. Floral/Anise 2007

Evening Romance Succumb to the ripe, exotic florals of Jasmine, Rose, and Orange flower on a bed full of Ambers and Oakmoss, with Citrus and Pink Pepper head notes. You'll be happier if you do. Chypre/Floral 2008

Evolution

Notes include: Vetiver, Frankincense, Ambergris, Oud, Black Current Bud, Spikenard, Lavender absolute, Litsea, Geranium absolute, Neroli, Orange Blossom absolute, Roman Chamomile, Hyacinth, Clary Sage, Bergamot, Galbanum

More than any other I’ve made, this perfume’s evolution is very distinct. The first hit of crisp freshness created by the Clary Sage/Bergamot/Galbanum chord is soon followed by the full floral body of Orange Blossoms, Chamomile, Lavender, Geranium, Neroli, and Hyacinths. Not clingy or heavy, it feels like you’re standing in a garden in late Spring or early Summer. It is warm and the soft breeze carries the scent to you. Standing tall, sun on your face, you breathe in, smiling at the wonder of it all. In the background, you can detect the earthy smells of Vetiver, Oud, Ambergris, and Spikenard. Herbal Floral 2010

Hope of Spring Earthy, leafy, sweet, and fresh, as the trees fill out into their summer best. The earth cracks open to support the new flocks of lavender, tuberose, rosemary, and stocks. Base notes of labdanum, ambergris, oakmoss, and vanilla; head notes of bergamot, cardamom, and black pepper. Chypre/ Floral 2008

Om Biblical frankincense, myrrh, spikenard, earthy patchouli, and sweet sandalwood offer a great supporting role to the heart notes of rose, champa, and tuberose. Bergamot is the opening scent that offers up this aroma to spirit. Floral 2004

Paris Nightlife Mimosa, Linden, Orange Blossom, Ylang, Tuberose, and Mango leaf carry on the wind as you stroll the streets of Paris in your mind. Blonde Tobac, Orris, and Ambergris ground you into the experience while tangerines and peppers in a nearby shops add to the aroma of Paris at night. Earthy/Floral 2010

Perfume and Fractal 3.jpg (226169 bytes) Floral Orientals:

Afterglow gets off to a sexy, raunchy riot with the indolic behaviour of Jasmine, Hyraceum, and Orange Blossom. After some time, it settles down to a warm bouquet of Frangipani, Orris, and Rose. Top notes include Pink Pepper, Turmeric, and bright Bergamot. Floral Oriental 2007  read the Review here...

a la Rouge is a luxurious fragrance created on a bed of roses, davana, ylang, jasmine, lotus, and honeysuckle accord. It opens with a burst of uplifting lemongrass, then on to the full flowery heart, drying down to an earthy, woody base of Oud, Ambrette, and sandalwood. Floral Oriental 2007

Autumn Aura speaks to us of a warm inviting space around the fireplace with our loved one's head in our lap. We are reading our books and often stop to share an interesting tidbit with one another. The skies are blue, the air has a hint of a chill, the trees are ablaze with colour. We know what is coming and are prepared to face it with this wonderful scent. Featuring notes of Peru balsam, Sandalwood vanutua, Vanilla CO2, Copaiba resin, Tuberose, Golden Champa, Kewda attar, Black Pepper, Tarragon, and Petitgrain sur fleur. Foral Oriental 2010

Entranced Featuring the plum-raison scent of Osmanthus who is joined by Jasmine and Neroli, this perfume opens with Cassie, bergamot, and petitgrain and softens to musky Ambrette, sandalwood, ambergris, and  amber accord. A lovely musk perfume. Floral Oriental 2008

Read the Review: Entranced.pdf

Inspired This sophisticated scent has a lively citrus opening with an interesting twist in the heart. Notes of Orange Blossom absolute, Orange Blossom Water absolute, Lavender, Pink Lotus, Mimosa, and Black Current Bud mingle in a fruity exotic fragrance. Sandalwood, Oud,  Beeswax, and Labdanum offer a deep, mellow, and honeyed supporting role to the formula. Floral Oriental 2007

Pagoda Peace Notes include: Vanilla, Frankincense, Ambergris, Tonka, Ambrette, Fruit accord, Jasmine, Neroli, Ylang Ylang, Ruby Red Grapefruit, Palma Rosa, Rosewood; base is Jojoba oil

The Jasmine is blooming all around the temple and, as you walk into this sacred space, you catch a whiff of Frankincense, Rosewood, ripe fruit, and sweet aromas like Vanilla, Tonka, Neroli, and Ylang Ylang. This scent centers you. You breathe deeply and you know you are in a place where you can just be peace. Floral Oriental Perfume 2010

Loverly Named by my friends who kept smelling this and calling it 'lovely', Loverly opens with a bright citrus scent followed by a full floral heart of rose, jasmine, lotus, and ylang and ending some time later with the rich balsamic labdanum, amber accord, and blonde tobacco. Floral Oriental 2007

Tantric Notions Champa, Lavender, and Ginger hold the Heart asana; powdery soft musky notes hold the Root asana; the head notes are bright and full of the golden glow from rosewood, palma rosa, sweet orange, and black pepper. Floral Oriental 2010

Whole Notes 'Hard to work with!', I hear. 'Not if you know how to talk to them and coax them out to play.', I say with a smile. Thick, gooky, chunky, and stuck to the lid and sides of the containers,  these yummy essences of Linden Blossom, Pink Lotus, Mimosa, Black Current Bud, Oud, Ambergris, Clary Sage absolute, and Labdanum marched in with Bergamot in the lead, are an orchestra worth listening to. I love this perfume.  Chypre Floral Oriental 2007 Read the Review here...
